Born on 3 August 1973 in Angba Iggah, Nasarawa Eggon local government area in Nasarawa State, the lawmaker is currently serving his second term as a Senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 10th Assembly.
Senator Akwashiki was a member of the Nasarawa State Assembly from 2011 to 2019, under the platform of the People's Democratic Party. during his first term (2011-2015), he was the Majority Leader in the State Assembly, he got reelected for the second term (2015-2019) where he was appointed the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly,
In 2019 Senator Akwashiki contested for and won the Nasarawa North senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-parliamentary Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Media and Public Affairs Committee.
