Sen Akpabio Godwill Obot
orn on December 9, 1962, at Ikot Ntuen of the Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.The lawmaker is currently serving his third term as a Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District and Senate President of the 10th National Assembly. He was also Governor of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria from (May 29, 2007 – May 29, 2015).
Before venturing into politics, Senator Akpabio began his early career as a teacher and as an associate partner with Paul Usoro and Co., later joined EMIS Telecoms Limited, where he also served as the National Publicity Secretary of the Association of Telecommunication Companies in Nigeria, (ATCOM), while a director of EMIS.
In 2002, he was appointed Honourable Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources in Akwa Ibom State. Between 2002 and 2006, he served as a Commissioner in three key ministries: Petroleum and Natural Resources, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as Lands and Housing.
(May 29, 2007 – May 29, 2015).
On May 29, 2007, he was elected as the governor of Akwa Ibom State and was re-elected for a second term in office as Governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2011- 2015.
In 2015, Senator Akpabio was first elected into the National Assembly as Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District and has served as Senate Minority Leader.
